When purchasing transparent sheets, polycarbonate (PC) solid sheets and acrylic (PMMA, commonly known as plexiglass) are the two most frequently compared materials. Although they look similar, their physical properties are fundamentally different. Here are the key comparisons:


1. Impact Resistance (Safety): This is the biggest difference between the two. The impact resistance of PC solid sheets is 250-300 times that of ordinary glass and 30 times that of acrylic sheets. PC sheets are known as "unbreakable" and can even be used for bulletproof glass; while acrylic sheets are brittle and easily shatter upon impact, producing sharp fragments. If your application involves personal safety (such as carports or skylights), polycarbonate solid sheets are the only choice.


2. Weather Resistance and Temperature Resistance: Solid PC polycarbonate sheets remain stable in environments ranging from -40℃ to 120℃. With the addition of a UV coating, they effectively resist UV aging, offering a warranty of up to 10 years. While acrylic has high surface hardness and is easy to polish, it is prone to yellowing and embrittlement after long-term outdoor exposure, and its heat resistance is poor, easily deforming at high temperatures.


3. Processing and Application: Solid PC polycarbonate sheets have excellent cold-bending properties, allowing them to be bent into various curvatures, making them suitable for creating arched ceilings. Acrylic is more suitable for interior decoration, billboards, or handicrafts where high flatness and optical effects are required.
